No, we are not recruiters or headhunters (for more info on why, see Lesson 3 above).

We're a career consultancy firm that works directly for you to personally guide you on finding unlimited opportunity in your job search. Headhunters/recruiters, on the other hand, are talent brokers. They do not work for you and they do not help you find opportunity.

Here's the full scoop.

Problem #1 - Recruiters are talent brokers that work on commission

Recruiters are hired (or employed) by the company doing the hiring, and they are paid only when they find the right talent. Like anyone, recruiters are loyal to their paymasters which means they do not work for you and will never have your best interests at heart. 

While most recruiters are not unethical (although some are), it's that they simply do not care about you. They care about their commission check, which means they will not put any additional effort into helping you. I find it interesting when potential clients come to me and say “James, I’m planning to work with a recruiter” - I remind them that it’s not possible to "work" with a recruiter, they'll only help you if you fit into their very specific box and you getting hired will help them get paid.

Remember this, a recruiter is never going to go out looking for a job for you!

Problem #2 - Recruiters have a limited job pool

Recruiters exist in a competitive market, which means they don't share job openings with each other. Any single recruitment firm will have access only to the limited number of positions that they are personally trying to fill.

While there may be thousands of roles which might suit you available in the market, by working with one (or even a handful) of recruiters, you'll likely never find them. So what's the answer?

The answer is to ensure that not one, not two, but ALL of the relevant executive recruiters in your industry and location know that you're available and looking for a new role (confidentially, of course). When it comes to working with recruiters, more is better.
